Position: Senior researcher at the division of Condensed Substances, Department of Dielectrics, Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, EU
Specialization: Terahertz spectroscopy of condensed substances

Education and Career Accomplishments:
Dr. P. Kužel (*1967) has received the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Paris-XIII (UP-XIII) in 1994. In 2013 he was habilitated (associated professor) in the field of quantum optics and optoelectronics at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, EU.
From 1991 to 1995, he was involved in the research of phase transitions in ferroelastics and in liquid crystals by light scattering experiments at UP-XIII. Since 1996, he is with the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (IOP) where he has introduced the field of time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy and built the terahertz spectroscopy lab. He was a Visiting Professor at UP-XIII from 1999 to 2001. Since 2000, he has been a Group Leader of the Terahertz Spectroscopy Research Group, Institute of Physics AS of the Czech Republic, EU.
His current research activities mainly involve the terahertz spectroscopy of condensed matter. Namely, his investigations are focused on ultrafast photoconductivity and charge carrier transport in nanostructured and disordered semiconductors, on the soft mode and central mode spectroscopy in ferroelectrics close to phase transitions, and on tunable materials and photonic structures for the terahertz spectral range.
Summary of publication activity:
- 110 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals, over 1550 citations, H-index 23
- 1 international patent
- 1 chapter in a book
- 15 invited talks at international conferences
